Has life ever smacked you in the face? Maybe you lost a job, a relationship, a home. Maybe you even had some goals you were chasing when all of a sudden everything just crumbled.
Well, I’m pretty sure you’ve been there, hence why this post is important.
Recently, I booked a flight and hotel for an Engineering convention I was so excited to attend.
I had reached out to a couple of colleagues I was hoping to meet and even bought some new suits for interviews…. When all of a sudden, I got the heartbreaking news that the convention was canceled due to the recent coronavirus outbreak.
What the hell?
As much as I had prepared and planned for this event, life still had a way of smacking me right in the face to show me that I still have no control over anything.
Friend, I don’t know what your own story is, but one advice I can give you is this:
YOU NEED TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD.
Although I may never get my hotel and plane ticket refunded, I have to still figure out ways to move on and make this interview happen.
The same applies to you.
You need to accept whatever life has thrown at you now and figure out ways to move forward in the process.
Here are some things to consider when life smacks you in the face.
GET A PLAN B, C, AND EVEN D
For those of you who never make alternatives, this might be a good time to reconsider.
It’s always recommended to have a backup plan in case things don’t go as planned.
I suggest having as many backup plans as possible. Because life has a way of also ruining some alternative plans you make.
THINK OF THE POSITIVES IN THIS SITUATION
Sometimes, life smacks us in the face as a reminder that we need to abort mission. So see this trial as a protection from a danger you possibly never saw coming.
If you focus so much on what you missed, you run the risk of remaining in a place of fear and disappointment.
Now will be a good time to show gratitude.
SEEK HELP AND GUIDANCE
Often times, when life smacks us in the face, our first instinct is to give up.
I mean, what’s the point of proceeding when your plan already got screwed up?
Thankfully, failure gives us the opportunity to get help and grow.
Perhaps there was something you didn’t do right or get right the first time?
Now will be the time to really seek the help and guidance you need.
LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES
When life smacks you in the face, learn from it.
It could be that you didn’t take the necessary steps or actions to make that plan go to fruition.
Therefore, now will be a good time to sit down and think of all the things you probably didn’t do right.
It is also important to ask yourself questions like; what should I avoid now in order for x to work out?
Such questions will help get you on track the next time you step out in action.
FIGHT FEAR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Fear creeps in when failure arises.
Thus it is important that you rid off fear as much as possible.
Because something didn’t work out the first time doesn’t automatically mean it won’t work out again.
Have faith, knowing that everything will eventually fall into place.
